Spoof EGold Email

Today, I received an email from EG Passphrase,
yC0sJ6h3_passphrase@e-gold.com which I forwarded
to E-Gold for investigation. After the quoted email
that I received today from EG Passphrase, yC0sJ6h3_passphrase@e-gold.com
I have posted some Security Tips, Courtesy of Dad n Daves!

Quoted Email From EGold PassPhrase

You did not provide an e-gold account number in your previous e-mail
request. If you are still having trouble accessing your account, please
reply with your 6-7 digit e-gold account number. If you have forgotte
your account number, please reply with the following information you
used to open the account:

HELPFUL HINTS:

IF, after entering your PIN to login to your e-gold account
number you are taken to yet another PIN screen - DO NOT enter.
Just close the browser window. This is a common sign of your
computer being infected with a very nasty thing called goldun.exe

People at the following support forum have got a solution
to help you get rid of the problem from your computer:
Tech Support Forum .

Just post in there describing your problem and they will
get back to you in no time. I have successfully used their
instructions to rescue a friend's computer AND their egold account.

Regards Trish @ dadndaves

Thanks to one of our members - here's some very interesting
(and useful!) information on e-gold hacks and how to protect yourself.

Get the word out and for heaven's sake, use firefox especially for surfing!

I've been doing some research on the egold trojan and how accounts are getting hacked. The scary part is that from what I read, most anti-virus/spyware
programs are not going to catch it because it is not in their databases yet.

Not only that, this trojan does not activate until after you have logged into
your egold and it uses your own computer to bypass every security measure, IP confirmation, password SRK, everything.

The trojan uses an exploit in IE to infect your computer.
DO NOT USE INTERNET EXPLORER. I can't stress that enough.
Download and use Firefox. Here is a description that I found
on how this trojan works:

This Trojan does not employ usual phishing techniques,
like logging user keystrokes in text files that can be
sent to a remote malicious user. Instead, whenever a user
tries to access the e-gold account login form via the URL
http://e-gold.com/acct/login.html, it opens a hidden duplicate
Internet Explorer (IE) window accessing that same URL.
It then proceeds to fill up the duplicate Web form,
which eventually leads to illegal account access.

The Trojan periodically drains the funds of the compromised
account by a certain percentage. The stolen funds are then
transferred to another e-gold account.

To be able to successfully perform this function, this Trojan
uses IE's built-in Object Linking and Embedding (OLE)
automation functions. This method is similar to API hooks
used by file-infectors. In this case, this Trojan executes
certain functions for every change in the URL address that
occurs while the user continues to navigate through the
following e-gold Web pages:
* e-gold.com/acct/acct.asp
* e-gold.com/acct/balance.asp
* e-gold.com/acct/spend.asp
* e-gold.com/acct/verify.asp
* https: //www.e-gold.com/acct/acct.asp
* https: //www.e-gold.com/acct/balance.asp
* https: //www.e-gold.com/acct/spend.asp

(Note: Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) is a compound
document standard that enables a user to create objects
with one application and then link or embed them in another
application.)

The Trojan runs on Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, and XP.
You all need to check your computers for the file named
gdiwxp.dll. This is the most recent variant of the trojan
that I could find and was still popping up in late March.
If you have this file on your computer, you are infected
with the egold trojan and and you need to get rid of it
immediately.

I don't know if the file will show up with a simple file
search, it may be a hidden. I used Hijack This to look
at my registry for the file.

You can download Hijack This for free at:
http://www.download.com/HijackThis/3...-10227353.html
This program is mainly used by people so that they can post
a registry log in the tech forums and ask for help.
Don't remove anything in your registry unless you know what
you are doing. Just look for the file containing gdiwxp.dll.

If you find the trojan on your computer, you can use
Security Task Manager to get rid of it. http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/

Again, DO NOT USE INTERNET EXPLORER!!!!!!

One of the symptoms that you are infected with this
trojan is that you get the wrong turing number page
(at egold) every time you try to log in. On the page you
are redirected to, the links at the top of the page will
not work. There are three security recommendations we would like
to make to you in case you are not currently doing them.

1. You may want to consider book marking the e-gold
IP address versus the URL as your e-gold bookmark and
only access it via your bookmark. The IP to bookmark is
https://209.200.169.10. The reason for doing this is
there are viruses such as this one:

http://us.mcafee.com/virusInfo/defau...&virus_k=99469

that plant fake entries in the host file which windows then
uses instead of the correct IP address for the site.
Using the e-gold IP address versus the URL will bypass
this type of Trojan. Also, never access your e-gold account
via an email message even if the message appears to come
from e-gold.

2. Always use the SRK feature to access your e-gold account
never type it in! You should first change your passphrase
using the SRK feature. If your passphrase is changed using
the "SRK" feature and the account is only accessed using the
"SRK" feature, then your passphrase will be protected even if
there is a Trojan virus on your computer. However,
this is true only if you are at the correct e-gold site.
To ensure you are always at the e-gold site, you may want
to click the box next to your account number on the login
page that says, "Store my account number on my computer".
In the future when you attempt to log into your account and
if the account number is not displayed, you should be wary
of entering your passphrase because you may be at a fake
e-gold site.

a. Log into your account using your current passphrase.
b. Click on the button that says, "account info"
c. Scroll down to passphrase box and click in the box.
d. Click on the button that says SRK
e. A small window will pop up on your screen
f. Enter your new passphrase by clicking on the numbers,
letters or symbols in the pop-up window. You will
see *** being added to the passphrase box as you use
your mouse to click on the numbers, letters or symbols.
*See note
g. When ready to confirm your passphrase click on the arrow
on the bottom right hand corner of the pop-up window.
h. Confirm new passphrase using the same procedure you
followed in item #6.
i. Click update passphrase.

*Note: For upper case letter click on the upper case "ABC",
for lower case letters click on the lower case "abc",
for numbers click on the "123", for symbols click on the "sym"

3. If you are making a spend via the e-gold shopping cart
interface (SCI) always confirm you at the actual e-gold site.

To verify you are at the actual e-gold site when using the SCI spend page,
double click on the gold security lock and verify that the certificate was
issued to www.e-gold.com and that the certificate was issued by
verisign and is valid from 11/22/2004 to 12/1/2006.

You can also review the certificate details and make sure
the certificate serial number is:
F84F 522C E958 A443 5A37 8934 6D77 2D70 096C 6A82.

And Then There Was Gerry

Quote

Then there was Gerry at Grandhits. When he left he said he had investments with a HYIP which was to provide profit until Nov of 2006. However, because this HYIP (which he never named) was slow in paying he decided to close Grandhits.

UnQuote

I just saw an ad rotation at Knight's Gold Surf that Grand Hits was coming back.

This isn't the first time that I've heard or seen or read about this rumor.

Last time, Gerry closed up with no warning, I say "one strike and you're out".

Below is an email to Surf Pay Monitor Regarding Surfice Dot Com Dated April 22, 2006.

From: "AutoSurfer"
To: admin@surfpaysmonitor.com
Subject: Surfice.com AutoSurf
Date: Sat, 22 Apr 2006 22:39:26 -0700

Please make it know to all that Surfice.com has failed and is a Scam!

To whom it may concern.

I want to file a complaint against an autosurf company named Surfice.com.

They claimed members earnings and payouts are not solely from new members that join, but it is now
obvious that they need new members to upgrade their accounts in order to payout older members each month.
It is obvious that this company is running a Pyramid scheme operation.

I became a member on 02/15/06. I felt it to be a safe company to be involved with because they were paying 2% daily
for a six month term and claimed to generate income from other sources than from new members.
They promised to pay their members from the first of each month and within two days or double their earnings for the
amount earned.

My initial membership fee was $1,500.00. The 2% daily would earn me $30.00 a day. My first payout on March 1st.
earned me $420.00.
I made numerous requests to be paid and I was finally paid after 12 days.
They assured all members that it would not take so long to be paid the following month for the March payouts beginning
on April 1st. I requested my earnings be paid on April 2cd.for the amount of $930.00.
I waited 5 days and submitted several tickets asking why I have not been paid for my March earnings. All requests were
not answered. Every couple of days, I would submit another ticket, but I would never receive a reply.
On the Surfice Forum, the moderator named Renee, admitted that payout are slow because membership has declined.
She basically just admitted that earning payouts could only be accomplished with new member’s money.

I began to post on the Surfice Forum with other members stating we have not been paid. Each time I would make a post,
the moderator would delete my posts so no new and older members would see the posts.
On April 15, the Forum was shut down. They posted the reason why is because they were conducting updates to the Forum,
but the truth is because so many members were posting that they were not being paid.
Maybe they just figured a way to block my user name or IP address and other unpaid members from being able to use
their Forum.
Today is the 21st. of April and the forum is still closed down.
I told them several times that I would be forced to take legal action if I(we)were not paid and to do what is right
and moral. I included below the letter I tried to post on the Forum and also sent to them personally.

Attention All Members – Important!

If you have read my previous post, you know that I stated I was going to take legal action against Surfice for not
paying many members their earnings. Beginning next week after the holiday I will be notifying the SEC, BBB and several organizations that are interested
to know when a company is set up as a pyramid scheme. It is obvious that Surfice is using new members upgrade fees to
make payout otherwise we all would have been paid long ago! I will also be making as many posts to forum explaining
that Surfice is not paying all their members and has very bad customer support.
I truly do not want to take this action. I sure can find better things to do with my time.
But when you put your trust in a company, just to be let down and have your money stolen, it is hard to just forget about
it. I’m both Angry and Hurt.
I upgraded with $1,500.00 dollars. They owe me $930.00 for March earnings and about that much more each month until my
term expires. Not to mention the double payment if they didn’t pay on time as they once “Promised” all of us.
Do not pay any attention to statements made by the Moderators and/or owners. They are just ploys to keep our hopes up.
We are all here to earn money not hope.
I advise every member NOT to refer any other members to Surfice. There is no reason to let any other member have their
money stolen even if it would mean that new money could be used to make current payments to unpaid members. That also
includes me.

All of this could be avoided if only they will do what is moral and that is to pay us as promised!

The above letter was completely ignored by the Surfice staff and owners.
If the concerning party reading this complaint needs further information from me, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you for your time.

SEC v Charis Johnson, LifeClicks, LLC & 12DailyPro

Updated Information

Re: Securities and Exchange Commission v. Charis Johnson, LifeClicks, LLC, and 12Daily Pro; USDC, Central Dist. of CA, Case No. CV 06-01018-NM(PLAx)

As most of you know by now, on March 1, 2006, Judge Nora M. Manella of the United States District Court for the Central District of California entered an Order of Permanent Injunction and related Orders which included the appointment of Thomas F. Lennon as permanent receiver in the above-referenced case. This Permanent Injunction specifically enjoined investors from exercising self-help, including "initiating or processing chargebacks of any monies used to purchase or upgrade membership units in or with 12DP." Because the Permanent Injunction was not clear as to whether it also applied to financial institutions processing chargebacks, the Receiver sought and obtained the Clarification Order that explicitly also prohibited financial institutions, to the extent possible, from processing chargebacks or refunds on electronic transfers. The Clarification Order was entered March 14, 2006. Visa, MasterCard, Global Payments, and Nova Information Systems, Inc. all filed applications requesting that the Clarification Order be vacated and that the Permanent Injunction Order be narrowed to make clear that individuals that used their credit cards to purchase memberships or upgrades retained whatever rights they had under their agreements with their credit card issuer. These applications were granted by the Court's minute order dated March 27, 2006.

As a result of these orders, investors who used credit cards to invest are not enjoined from exercising self-help vis-à-vis their credit card, but investors that used electronic fund transfers to invest are enjoined from exercising self-help. Although this may seem like an unfair distinction, the legal rights of each group are different. The rights of consumers to dispute electronic transfers are limited to unauthorized debits or errors in the amount of debits, but do not provide a right to reverse a transfer because the consumer has discovered that the recipient was perpetrating a fraud. Moreover, all investors and creditors are enjoined from initiating any legal action against 12Daily Pro, LifeClicks or Charis Johnson.

The Receiver's goal is to try and put all investors on the same footing in obtaining a return of their principal. It is uncertain at this time whether there will be enough funds recovered to achieve that goal. The Receiver's efforts are focused on recovering funds that rightfully belong to the receivership estate, obtaining records from StormPay and others in order to determine how much each investor transferred to 12Daily Pro, how much each investor received in returns, and how much each investor recovered through chargebacks or electronic transfer returns. From this information, the Receiver will determine the net claim amount of each investor. The Receiver anticipates asking permission from the Court to distribute the assets recovered to investors pro rata based on net claim amounts. It is impossible to estimate at this time what likely recoveries will be or when the Receiver may be in a position to make distributions. The Receiver realizes that this is an extremely frustrating situation for investors, but please understand that he is working as diligently as possible to reach a fair and equitable result.

Lennon, a United States District Court appointed Receiver, at the request of the Securities and Exchange Commission, on March 1, 2006. On March 27 2006, the SEC appointed receiver made the following ann ouncement.

12Daily Pro Mastermind Is At It Again

Charis Johnson is at it again. The woman behind 12 Daily Pro who left hundreds of thousands of investors out millions of dollars, has put out her single on a new internet site, Startup Street .

Startup Street promises to teach people how to be web entrepreneurs making millions for themselves. For a consumer to join, is costs nothing just a lot of personal information and a stream of websites and advertisements along with surveys about those sites.

ABC 4 asked a West Valley mom and former 12 Daily Pro investor to look at the site, sign-up and then tell us what she thinks. The first thing Debbie Nelson noticed was the layout. The colors are different, but taken as a whole the Startup Street site looks a lot like the 12 Daily Pro site. About the more detailed questionnaire required at sign-up she said, "This is a little bit scarier this time."

Besides the Consumer Lane, there is also a "Business Boulevard" that does require a modest monthly fee.

The program as described is vague. Consumers apparently earn points for viewing the ads and answering questions. Those points can eventually be redeemed for unspecified "awards".

But heres the real bombshell: While promoting her new program, Charis Johnson blasts her old program.

Once the queen of the auto-surf industry, here's what she's saying now:

"If you are currently participating in online surfing programs or riskly high-yield investment programs, the reality is 99% of these programs will fail because they are illegal, run by the unscrupulous or not meant for long term viability. Either way, if you entrust these types of programs with your financial future, you will be sorely disappointed. We want to help you eliminate the need for such risky ventures and give you a sense of pride for accomplishing success on your own terms. You need to take the power to control your destiny out of the hands of those programs and into your own."

"Thats really sad," said Nelson. "Most people are not going to come to this website knowing that this is the same person who started up 12 Daily Pro. She said, "If I wasnt helping [ABC 4], I wouldn't touch this with a 10 foot pole!"

Auto-Surf Alert: To All Members of EProfit Surf

I received the following email from another auto-surf Owner, as he states this and I QUOTE

Below my signature is the latest correspondence from EprofitSurf.

I must say this is not unexpected based on their actions the last couple of months.

My opinion is that the eprofitsurf owners have taken advantage of the Stormpay situation and have managed to cheat, lie and steal hundreds of thousands of dollars for they own gain.

They have made it as difficult as they possibly could on anyone trying to get their money from them.

Signature is Witheld at My Discression

Email From Eprofit:

Auto-surf-money has been forced to temporarily close due to the restrictions placed upon it by other processors, such as Paypal and e-Gold.

As a result, there is currently no way to receive or payout funds from eProfitWorks. We believe the the most fair and logical way to handle this situation is to do as follows:

eProfitWorks will be temporarily closed effective Monday, March 27 The operations staff will then begin reviewing the database to calculate refunds for all members to which they are due.

A refund will be due if the amount you have spent from outside funds is greater than the amount you have cashed out. Purchases made from account earnings are not eligible for refund. Following this process, all accounts will be reset to zero so that we can restart with a clean slate.
All members currently in free status will be deleted prior to this process to minimize the amount of data being worked with

Refunds will be issued via ASM company check. Please complete your member profile in ASM so a check can be mailed to you if you are due a refund.

If you have purchased upgrades via Stormpay previously, you will be receiving an email with the amount that is being held in escrow for you.

eProfitWorks and ASM will remain offline until all development work is complete. Once complete, an announcement will be sent to all members and the sites will reopen. At this time, we are unable to give you a timeframe, however, we are doing our best to minimize the downtime.

Please do not submit support tickets regarding this issue.

What/How Chargebacks

Jim Taylor of Autosurfing Guide stated that he would be glad to explain 'charge backs" if I wrote to the email address on his website.

So, I took him up on his offer.

Not only was his reply unbelievably quick, it was very informative.

I had not know what a 'charge back' was, this letter is in regards
to monies taken from anyone via Storm Pay.

Below is Jim Taylor's Reply To My Email!
Thank You, Jim!

Hi,
If you used your credit card to fund the purchase, contact your card company and file a chargeback for the items which you did not receive.
Both Visa and MC can charge back to Stormpay, in their cases the funds are not covered by the receiver, appointed by the court.
If however, you funded through a direct deposit, you are out of luck.
Hope this helps.

AP Is Drumming Up Business

I received this email from "Alert Pay", they might have more people using their currency exchange program if they were about a month more efficient.

April 28, 2006

Dear "Me",

AlertPay is continually growing and we have you to thank you for this. Thank you!

This week's Alert will inform you of the following:

PAYING NON-ALERTPAY SELLERS
E-GOLD
CREDIT CARDS

PAYING NON-ALERTPAY SELLERS
AlertPay has more members than ever before, with new people signing up every minute! Many new sellers have started using
AlertPay as their online payment procesor. This is great news for you since it means you will have a wider selection of sellers
whom you can easily pay using your AlertPay account.

Remember, you can easily send an invitation payment to anyone who isn't currently using AlertPay. If you would like a seller to
accept your payment using AlertPay, then simply send a payment to that seller's email address from your AlertPay account. That's it!

The seller will then receive an email informing him/her that you have sent a payment using AlertPay and all s/he has to do is
register for an AlertPay account. As soon as the seller registers, the funds will be deposited into his/her newly created
account. If the seller does not register for AlertPay, you can easily cancel the transaction to have your money returned to your
AlertPay account.

So, go ahead, let sellers know that you prefer to make AlertPay your way to pay!

E-GOLD

Add Funds by E-Gold
We're happy to see that so many of you are using AlertPay's E-Gold transfer services. However, a few of you are forgetting
to put your AlertPay transaction reference number in your E-Gold transfer (memo field). This delays the processing of your
transaction since we cannot validate the transfer until we hear from you. Please remember the following process when adding
funds to your AlertPay account from E-Gold:
Create the 'Add Funds by E-Gold' transaction in your AlertPay account. Copy the reference number given to you at
the end of the process.
Log in to our E-Gold account.
Send an E-Gold transfer (in USD) to AlertPay's E-Gold account and put your AlertPay reference number in the memo
of the E-Gold transfer.

Withdraw Funds by E-Gold
Many of you are enjoying the ease of withdrawing funds from your AlertPay account and having them deposited to your
E-Gold account. Just please remember to ensure that you provide your correct E-Gold account number when creating the
AlertPay withdrawal transaction since an E-Gold transfer to the wrong account CANNOT be undone.

Also, you can avoid the delay in processing your E-Gold withdrawal by becoming verified with AlertPay. Simply click on
the 'Become Verfied' link in your AlertPay account.

CREDIT CARDS
You have been patiently waiting for some concrete information about AlertPay's credit card system. We appreciate your patience
and understanding and are happy to announce that we plan to have our new credit card system fully functional by July 4th, 2006.
Yay!

PROTECT YOUR ACCOUNT:

NEVER give your password to anyone, including AlertPay employees.
Protect yourself against fraudulent websites or emails by opening a new web browser window (e.g. Internet Explorer or
Netscape) and typing in the www.alertpay.com every time you log in to your account.

Thank you for using AlertPay!

EGold Security: Article From FairPatton

This article contains useful information concerning EGold and security which I feel would be beneficial for all to read.

The following email is from e-gold to an Administrator who claims their account was hacked, the response it NOT what would give anyone pleasure reading.

The person who compromised your account used the automated interface to spend the funds. There is no pin required for automated spends which is why you did not receive a pin e-mail for that ip address. You may want to adjust your automation attributes to restrict automated spends to a specific ip block or disable this option entirely.

Your security is also disabled you will need to update your security level to prevent future problems.

Please check your computer for the following Trojans Win32/Goldun.ia; GDIWXP.DLL and pwsteal.trojan. We have had a couple of customers who reported being infected with these viruses. One customer said he did not find anything when he ran Norton and McAfee anti-virus software, but he found the Win32/Goldun.ia Trojan when he used a software called 'Kaspersky'.
